Despite the initial hesitation that is associated with any new concept, pre-laminated particleboards soon became popular. Overcoming the inertia from the carpenter segment, particleboards became acceptable and caught the imagination of the Indian market. It began to enjoy an increasing presence in the interiors of several government institutions like MES, CPWD, Housing boards, DOT as well as corporate offices and banks.
As product awareness increased, so did the demand for pre-laminated particle boards. Several new ventures were set up in and around the country. However, Novopan still enjoys a leadership position and is sold in the market at a premium. Novopan has in fact become a generic name for pre-laminated particleboard market in the country.
The distribution of the product is mainly through dealers in almost all major cities and towns in the country and direct sales to OEMs. The present market share of Novopan is around 20% and much of the market is in the un-organized sector. The market size is growing year after year with the advent of BPO and ITES sectors where the requirement is very huge for office partitions and furniture. This is clearly visible in our current order book position where OEMs such as Godrej and Featherlite are placing increasingly large orders. |
