GVK’s 15 year foray in India’s Airport Infrastructure in Mumbai, Bangalore and Navi Mumbai from 2006 – 2021
GVK first made its foray in the Indian aviation sector in 2006, when it bagged the mandate to operate, manage and develop the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai. Over the next 15 years, GVK blazed new trails in the field of India’s airport development by creating iconic design landmarks in Mumbai and Bangalore, as also the proposed Greenfield airport at Navi Mumbai.
In 2010, GVK acquired a significant stake in Bangalore International Airport Ltd., and developed a new Master Plan, which envisaged construction of a new Terminal 2, a new second runway and ancillary facilities to cater for traffic of 55 mppa by the year 2029-30.
During 2017, the GVK led Mumbai International Airport Ltd. was declared the successful bidder for the development and construction of the Greenfield Navi Mumbai International Airport. A new company, Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL), a subsidiary of MIAL, was granted the exclusive right and authority for development of the Airport under PPP on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis, pursuant to the concession agreement of January, 2018 entered into between CIDCO and NMIAL.
